Playing a gale-force nuclear fusion reaction of touchwood and warm stone fueled by massive doses of guitar firepower, the Dexateens came together in Tuscaloosa, AL, in 1998. After the dissolving of his ring the Phoebes, guitarist Elliott McPherson met drummer Craig Pickering (aka Sweet Dog), worldly concern Health Organization was overly bandless subsequently Verga called it quits. Looking to form a high-powered oliver Stone dance isthmus, the iI recruited bassist Matt Patton (ex-Model Citizen) and guitar player John Smith (formerly with American Cosmic), and the Dexateens were born.

Influenced by classic Southern rock as comfortably as turncoat hoodlum, the band began dabbling with a three-guitar lineup and began playing shows with blighter Dixie rockers the Quadrajets, world Health Organization taught them worthful lessons approximately generating a wall of sonic biff onstage. After an effort to track record an album with Fat Possum Records fall through Bruce Watson in the producer's chair failed to gratify either Watson or the Dexateens, the ring dependant up with Texas punk rock pioneer and veteran service department tough producer Tim Kerr, world Health Organization added extra guitar to the band's self-titled debut, released by Estrus Records in other 2004. Little more than a year afterward, the Dexateens released their second uncut, Red River Dust Rising, which establish the bandmembers turning down their amps a bit for a less strong-growing simply motionless ballsy ingest on graeco-Roman Southern rock.

Willie Mae Rock Camp Showcase Portends Big Things for Little Girls

Hi, we're famous, announced one of the performers addressing the line outside of the Music Hall of Williamsburg at Saturday's Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls 2008 Showcase. This is going to be awesome. Having an act inform you of their fame is an ill portent at any show, but the awesomeness promised by the young lady was triumphantly delivered. There was shredding. There was head banging. And yes, there were drum solos. There were also braces, leg warmers, ponytails, and several mike stands standing at about three feet high. The early-afternoon showcase was the culmination of Willie Mae's intensive weeklong seminar in rockin' out. Emceed by the irrepressible, travel-size Cassidy Van Cooten (with only a little help from a staff member), the event displayed the talents of seventeen bands, most with rather innovative lineups.

The kids not only pulled off their accessories sleeveless band tees, neckties, and fingerless gloves, all things better worn by kids dressing up as adults, and not the other way around but their set was full of surprises. The high points: the Explosive Diamonds' guitar player effectively wrestling a Gretsch Chet Atkins bigger than she was, a chilling a cappella breakdown courtesy of the Nothingness, and Fairy Sandwich's four-fisted high-hat clang. The catchiest song was Girlz Like Boyz' party protest rant Good-bye Mr. President, which recalled for us the bratty, adolescent beat of L'Trimm. (The band stopped short of formally endorsing Obama, but their jam has Raising McCain soundly beat.) Common to many of the groups seemed to be the influence of the Shaggs, Hole, and um, Thurston Moore and his tuneless drones er, maybe something Indian? We've seen worse from Pratt students in bands. And aspiring indie rockers of all ages would do well to learn that when a live performance doesn't exactly jell, just smile big, throw candy, and raise those devil horns high.

David Archuleta signs with 19 Recordings

'American Idol' runner-up has begun writing songs

NEW YORK -- Much like his "American Idol" cohort, Season 7 winner David Cook, runner-up David Archuleta has signed with 19 Recordings/Jive. If history reveals anything, fans can expect an album from the 17-year-old pop singer in the fall or winter, after his stint with the American Idols Live tour concludes.
It's possible that the Utah native might be penning some songs for the effort himself. In a recent interview, Archuleta said he has "started to write some songs. I thought that was really fun to do. ... I'd like to get into that more. I think this experience on 'American Idol,' trying to figure out what songs work best with your voice and trying to arrange them, has really helped and I'd like to see if I can write some more stuff, because I've only written like three songs all the way."
Three songs sung by Archuleta have already impacted the Hot 100 chart. His versions of "Imagine," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "In This Moment" bowed at No. 36, No. 58 and No. 60 last week, though they slid off of this week's tally.
The Idols tour kicks off July 1 and runs through Sept. 13, featuring this season's other top 10 finalists like Cook, Brook White, Sayesha Mercado and Jason Castro.

Sex And The City - Cattrall Delighted To Beat Indiana Jones

SEX AND THE CITY star KIM CATTRALL is delighted her film has over taken the new INDIANA JONES movie at the global box office - calling the news "classic".

Sex and the City: The Movie edged out Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to claim the number one spot outside the U.S. this week (beg09Jun08).

The big-screen adaptation of the hit U.S. TV series earned an estimated $38.2 million (GBP19.1 million) during its second weekend on release, ending Indiana Jones' two week reign at the top of the international charts.

And Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones in the hit film, was stunned by the news - because she never thought her movie could overtake Harrison Ford's comeback as the action archeologist.

She says, "I never thought it would be this huge, to beat Indiana Jones, I mean - that's Hollywood royalty.

"It's classic, that was truly a weekend to remember. I've never gotten so many phone calls from executives on a Sunday morning. It was really exciting."
