David Archuleta signs with 19 Recordings

'American Idol' runner-up has begun writing songs

NEW YORK -- Much like his "American Idol" cohort, Season 7 winner David Cook, runner-up David Archuleta has signed with 19 Recordings/Jive. If history reveals anything, fans can expect an album from the 17-year-old pop singer in the fall or winter, after his stint with the American Idols Live tour concludes.
It's possible that the Utah native might be penning some songs for the effort himself. In a recent interview, Archuleta said he has "started to write some songs. I thought that was really fun to do. ... I'd like to get into that more. I think this experience on 'American Idol,' trying to figure out what songs work best with your voice and trying to arrange them, has really helped and I'd like to see if I can write some more stuff, because I've only written like three songs all the way."
Three songs sung by Archuleta have already impacted the Hot 100 chart. His versions of "Imagine," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "In This Moment" bowed at No. 36, No. 58 and No. 60 last week, though they slid off of this week's tally.
The Idols tour kicks off July 1 and runs through Sept. 13, featuring this season's other top 10 finalists like Cook, Brook White, Sayesha Mercado and Jason Castro.

Sex And The City - Cattrall Delighted To Beat Indiana Jones

SEX AND THE CITY star KIM CATTRALL is delighted her film has over taken the new INDIANA JONES movie at the global box office - calling the news "classic".

Sex and the City: The Movie edged out Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to claim the number one spot outside the U.S. this week (beg09Jun08).

The big-screen adaptation of the hit U.S. TV series earned an estimated $38.2 million (GBP19.1 million) during its second weekend on release, ending Indiana Jones' two week reign at the top of the international charts.

And Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones in the hit film, was stunned by the news - because she never thought her movie could overtake Harrison Ford's comeback as the action archeologist.

She says, "I never thought it would be this huge, to beat Indiana Jones, I mean - that's Hollywood royalty.

"It's classic, that was truly a weekend to remember. I've never gotten so many phone calls from executives on a Sunday morning. It was really exciting."
